AI in the Edit Suite: Assistant, Not Author
COLLINS Editorial
Transcription, selects and rough assemblies — where automation genuinely helps editors, and where craft still rules.
The most honest thing we can say about AI in post-production is that it is excellent at the boring parts. Transcription that once consumed evenings now arrives in minutes. Three-hour recordings become searchable. First assemblies write themselves — badly, but usefully.
Our position is deliberate: AI assists, humans author. At COLLINS we use automation to compress the distance between ingest and creative decisions — never to replace the decisions themselves. The cut still needs taste. The story still needs a point of view.
CBH AutoEdit is being designed around that principle: AI drafts, editors direct. Transcripts, highlight proposals and caption generation accelerate the pipeline while every publish decision stays human.
Studios that treat AI as an assistant will ship more, learn faster and keep their craft. Studios that treat it as an author will ship sameness. The difference matters.
